Victoria Beckham Eyewear SS 2011 - the Midas touch?

If you'd have told me in 1996 that some Wannabe popstar would have her name on some of the best eyewear designs in the world, I would have said, "Why are you talking to me about glasses? I work in a pub."

But few would have predicted that a once successful barman would've ended up writing a "blog" about glasses, and even fewer would have predicted that Victoria Beckham, would command a successful fashion brand, the first foray of which would have been of the spectacular.

Alas, here we are (we were here last year too). Who Do You Think You Are Victoria Beckham? Again, these sunglasses are exciting,  original and, coming from the Cutler and Gross stable, of supreme quality.

Goldenballs and... Goldeneye!? VB's so good I may soon have to stop referring to her poptastic past.

Kirk Originals opens its doors on Conduit Street with music from David McAlmont

Any week where a new glasses shop opens in London is a good week. So when Kirk Originals' new flagship store officially opened its doors on Conduit Street on Thursday, and revealed the full majesty of its "projections", the incredible spec display you see above, the week entered hitherto unchartered highs - I've never seen a glasses shop as cool as this.

Kirk Originals parties are always a laugh and a good chance to find some spectacular people. EWG even had the pleasure of meeting David McAlmont and Guy Davies (performing below) and designer Karen Kirk (right wearing a frame from the Kirk Originals Kinetic collection).

More pictures from the launch party here from Kirk Originals, but first a video...

And here's the shop when empty...

Oliver Goldsmith to remake Audrey Hepburn's sunglasses to mark 50th anniversary of Breakfast at Tiffany's

Oliver Goldsmith to remake Audrey Hepburn's sunglasses to mark 50th anniversary of Breakfast at Tiffany's

Fans of Breakfast at Tiffany's will be pleased at the announcement by Oliver Goldsmith Sunglasses is launching the Manhattan, an exact replica of the frame worn here by Holly Golightly, played by Audrey Hepburn. Brilliant use of light green lens colour in contrast to the brown, tortoiseshell frame.

If you haven't seen the film for while, it's worth a play of this trailer. The sunglasses feature quite prominently early on...

Hometown hook-up: Lena Hoschek sunglasses in collaboration with Robert La Roche

Lena Hoschek sunglasses in collaboration with Robert La RocheAustrian fashion designer Lena Hoschek presents her first collection of sunglasses, and all I can ask is why she hasn't done it before!?

The collection is a collaboration with Robert La Roche, the top notch eyewear brand from the same country, indeed from the same city, Graz.

After assisting Vivienne Westwood, Hoschek started her own label at the age of 24 in 2006. Fascinated by the female ideal of the 1940s and 50s, she mixes quality craftsmanship and high-end tailoring with rock 'n' roll, punk music, tattoos and fast cars.

Well welcome to the wonderful world of eyewear Lena and congratulations. Mrs EWG says well done too! Here's hoping this isn't a one-off!
