3D printed glasses #1: a cross-stitch eyewear creation

EWG was first to reveal the Colors of Birch collection of 3D printed glasses last year, but we're a  few months behind on these cross-stitch spectacles. Nevertheless we're proud to feature the Tapestry Spectacle by Chloë McCormick and NODH, featured in the Send to Print / Print to Send exhibition in London in January. There's something rather cosy about these!

Buy contrast, buy colour: L.G.R 2012 sunglasses

L.G.R's creations for 2012 once again demonstrate that the Italian handmade frame designers are the cleverclogs of colour and contrast. Few top-end brands tick all the boxes quite like L.G.R – top to bottom: Nairobi with mirrored lenses, Tsavo in matt brown and green, Alexandria in black and dark grey, Carthago in havana and green, and Nairobi in honey and green. Yum!

Kuboraum Masks - chunky shades and glasses designed in Berlin

Berlin has a good track record in amazing eyewear brands so when I heard about Kuboraum – literally Cubic Room – I knew it'd probably be impressive. And it is – hoorah! The 'masks' in collection K001 are chunky, bold, black frames, designed in Berlin and handmade in Italy.

"Kuboraum are cubical rooms where we shelter ourselves, free to live our intimacy and look at the world through two lenses," say the designers, and I get what they mean. For a new brand, it already seems to have a good distribution - available in Europe and beyond

Standing warm against the cold: Skylark wood-stone glasses from Rolf

I really do get excited about these glasses. I tried on a pair of Rolf's wooden specs with a stone finish in Paris last year and they really are incredibly comfortable: the wood makes them so light and then the stone has this dramatic cooling effect on your face. An incomparable piece of eyewear.

This is Skylark 41, winner of the Red Dot design award for 2012. Congrats to Rolf Spectacles...
