YMC vs Mc Ginn Eyewear: Bonafide frames from rare acetates

YMC vs Mc Ginn Eyewear: Bonafide frames with rare acetates: Rocco
How about that acetate for a debut? We've mentioned Mc Ginn before, but this is the first collection we've featured. You Must Create (YMC) is one of the most highly regarded men's fashion brands of the UK (have just visited its site and am resisting the urge to splurge). Mc Ginn, or Bonafide Mc Ginn, the name behind London eyewear designer Brian McGinn, has released these images and more of his collaboration with YMC: eight designs in five colourways, handcrafted in France with rare acetates. Above is Rocco, and below are Bonafide, Nitin, Parlour and Slim. Available soon...

Dzimtry Samal has graced these pages a couple of times before so it's exciting to catch up with his 2012 collection, Intersection, a fitting name given Samal's background in car design. The name actually refers to the intersection of shapes, whether a circle, triangle, square or  hexagon. Acetate frames, handmade in France, are available from Dzimitry Samal now – priced €298 – and from high-end opticians soon.

Studio Swine is a London-based design art and fashion house run by Azusa Murakami and Alexander Groves. EWG likes - particularly the clips! Above are some creations made for London Fashion Week reflecting the Icarus theme of Jane Bowler's womenswear collection. And below are Hair Glasses, which comprise human hair with bioresin as a binding agent. The frames are 100% biodegradable and no harmful substances are released during production...

Am enjoying the use of layers in these Yves Saint Laurent 2012 sunglasses: above is YSL2350 and below the YSL6366 cat's eye. Interesting to see more subtle branding from the designer names...

Louis Vuitton FW 2012 sunglasses go down to the wire

Here's an early glimpse at Louis Vuitton's latest invention for its men's winter collection: the Wire Frame. Come to think of it you could do some cross-stitch on these too!

Popped into the brilliant Eye Company on Wardour Street last week where I was introduced to these little beauties from luxury menswear designer Thom Browne, produced by Dita Eyewear. Loving the clips, the mesh safety sides and, having tried them on, the comfortable wire temples. Well worth the price tag!

"Where would one buy glasses like the pair worn by oneself?"

The Queen, seen here thanking the nation's people for their goodwill over her busy Diamond Jubilee weekend, purchases her spectacles from Roger Pope & Partners on New Cavendish Street, London. And very good they look too, although I did quite like Her Majesty in those 3D glasses as well!

Pope also has a practice in Dulwich Village.

CW Dixey's Chartwell 01 glasses as worn by Tony (and Churchill)

After the weekend's Diamond Jubilee celebrations here in London, the next anniversary is that of the Normandy landings, this day in 1944.

Fittingly, here's my father-in-law Tony, who lives in Normandy and is a keen reader of all books Second World War. So I was particularly pleased to find him in a pair of Chartwell 01s, by CW Dixey & Son, a faithful replica of Sir Winston Churchill's famous round frames.

More on CW Dixey, which has been making glasses since 1777, can be found in my post last September...

Diamond Jubilee street party: yellow glasses (and cake)

What a weekend it's been! EWG gatecrashed a boisterous (if slightly drizzly) Diamond Jubilee street party this afternoon in Sydenham, London. Undeterred by the gloom, one glamorous local dished out her mum's fab chocolate and strawberry cream cake (remnants of which, note ye, are reflected in the lenses of her yum yellow shades).
